The Four Books of the General Catalogue of the Four Books commented on Li Xin's poetry and writings: "His poetry is cheerful, without the sound of twittering after the South China Sea. Although it seems that his preface is not qualified, his other works are also recited in a handsome manner, so he can be called an author in the late Northern Song Dynasty." The first of these is the "Three Rui Tang Ji", which is an essay in praise of Cai Jing, but like the "Jin Ge Ji", which is an account of the conquest of the Qiang rebels in Maozhou in the seventh year of the reign of Zhenghe (1117), it is a vivid record of the cowardice of the Song soldiers, and reveals the interest of satirical literature in the midst of sorrow.
